i had the New York Yankees yesterday but the Texas Rangers manage to tie and win in extra innings.  oh well, on to the next game.

the Texas Rangers are hot right now.  the Texas Rangers are on a three game winning streak thanks to their come back victory yesterday over the New York Yankees in extra innings.  i thought the New York Yankees had gotten over their recent three game losing streak but looks like i was wrong about that.  the New York Yankees still have the better record in their last ten games though with six wins and four losses.  the Texas Rangers only have four wins in their last ten games.  the Texas Rangers managed to help the Tampa Bay Rays who also won and are now only 1.5 games back of the New York Yankees in a tight American League East.  if the Texas Rangers were trying to send a playoff message to the New York Yankees, they did it in style, with a homer in extra innings to seal the victory.

the New York Yankees sends struggling starter Burnett (10-13, 5.15 ERA) to the mound on Saturday.  the New York Yankees pitcher has been dismal lately going 4-11 with a 6.58 ERA since the beginning of june.  on a positive note for the New York Yankees, Burnett has had success against the Texas Rangers in his career.  the New York Yankees right hander is 4-3 with a 3.61 ERA against the Texas Rangers.  the New York Yankees pitcher also only gave up 3 runs in 14 innings against the Texas Rangers this season.

Hunter (12-3, 3.99 ERA) takes the mound for the Texas Rangers.  the Texas Rangers pitcher was roughed up in his last start, a drubbing at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays.  the Texas Rangers Hunter gave up seven runs in a 7-2 loss.  the Texas Rangers  right hander loss his only start against the New York Yankees way back in 2008.

my thoughts on this game is that despite the Texas Rangers pitcher having the better and more impressive record, the New York Yankees should be the better team in this situation.  the New York Yankees play to the level of their competition and the loss yesterday was just what was needed to jump start them back in to how they were playing before their record three game losing streak.  i like burnett and the New York Yankees in this one without a doubt.  yes i know the Texas Rangers have a three game winning streak and you should not bet against teams on winning streaks usually but for whatever reason i love the New York Yankees as the play on Saturday.

the New York Yankees managed to end their three game losing streak by beating the Baltimore Orioles in the ninth inning with a home run and winning their last game 3-2.  with that win the New York Yankees also managed to increase their lead over the Tampa Bay Rays by 2.5 games in the American League East.  the New York Yankees have 7 wins in their last ten games.

the Texas Rangers have a massive 7.5 game lead in the American League West and this game could but a preview of a possible playoff match up.  the Texas Rangers have only four wins in their last ten games but are on a two game winning streak coming in to this game with the New York Yankees.

the New York Yankees definitely showed a lack of motivation in their series with the bad record Baltimore Orioles but i have a feeling that they will play well in this series with the Texas Rangers.  the New York Yankees have a tendency to play well against good teams.  also in the New York Yankees favor is the fact that they have a very good record against the Texas Rangers.  the New York Yankees are 4-1 in their season series with the Texas Rangers so far.  the New York Yankees are 16-5 on the road against the Texas Rangers in the last six seasons.

Javier Vazquez (10-9, 5.01 ERA) takes the mound for the New York Yankees in the opener of their series with the Texas Rangers.  this game might have the revenge factor since the Texas Rangers clobbered the New York Yankees pitcher when he last met them.  the New York Yankees right hander gave up 6 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings when he last faced the Texas Rangers.

C.J. Wilson (14-6, 3.10) takes the mound for the Texas Rangers on Friday.  the Texas Rangers pitcher had a rare bad start in his last start in which he gave up 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings against the Minnesota Twins.  the Texas Rangers left hander has no wins and one loss with a 3.97 ERA in two starts versus the New York Yankees this season.  the Texas Rangers' Wilson had been 7-0 with a 1.99 ERA since july 18 before his bad start versus the Minnesota Twins.

my thoughts on this game are that while the New York Yankees have a pitcher who is struggling and has a worse ERA than the Texas Rangers opposing pitcher in this game, the New York Yankees will some how find a way to win.  the New York Yankees have had so much success against the Texas Rangers recently that i think the New York Yankees will play up notch when facing a team that they "respect" unlike when they faced the Baltimore Orioles.
